Story

Story mode allows you to play through a story which you obviously won't be able to understand. It is recommended to clear this mode to get a feel for each character and different play styles. If you lose in this mode, you may continue, and the computer's limit bubble will shrink(Translation: it becomes easier to win).

Clearing story mode with Keiichi/Rena, Mion/Sion, and Rika/Satoko will unlock their alternate uniforms. You can select this uniform by holding down the Lock key when you select the character. Clearing the story mode with the last pair, Akane/Kasai, will unlock the night time version of the school stage.

Note: In the expansion, you no longer need to finish Story Mode with everyone for their outfit. Instead of using lock key, you just have to tap L/R while selecting the weapon and the hypermode of your character. All of the alternative oufits for all characters are available by default, along with the night version of the school stage.

Versus

Versus mode which supports up to four players locally. If there is more than one human player, the screen will be split into fourths.

When selecting a character, you first choose their weapon, then the Hypermode (Oyashiro/Friendship/Kakera), then either player or CPU. Any vacant spots when entering the game will be automatically assigned a randomly selected CPU controlled character.

In the expansion, you can select a character randomly by putting your cursor on one of the team bracket. The character and their weapon will be selected randomly, and you still can choose their hypermode.

In Versus mode, you can turn it into a semi training mode with the following keys:

  • F1 - Maxes life gauges and reduces balloons to 0%
  • F2 - Turn CPU off (all CPU will stand in place)
  • F3 - Turn CPU on (all CPU will resume action)
  • F4 - Max all Oyashiro/Friendship/Kakera bars

Stage Select options are as follows:

  • Stage Name - Name of the stage
  • Day/Night - Time of day setting
  • Time Limit - Time limit for each match. 60,120,180,240,∽(default) seconds
  • Defense Power - Defense power mod of each character. 50,75,100(default),125,150,175,200

Netplay

Netplay allows you to either host a game, or connect to another server.

  • Host - Start hosting a game immediately with the current settings.
  • Connect to Server - You can either input the IP address manually, or use the up/down keys to select an IP address from addresslist.txt. To use addresslist.txt, simply enter one IP per line in plaintext.
  • Enter Name - Enter your name for other people to see you as. Confirm using the last button in the righthand column.
  • Delay - Delay setting. For playing people local to you(~50 ms ping), you may leave this at 3. If you are playing people with higher latency(~200 ms ping), you might want to try 5 or 6. A higher setting here makes controls stiffer, but helps compensate for the lag.
  • Port - Port setting. Don't touch this unless you know what you're doing.
  • Enable Chat - Enables or disables chat during the game.

Game Options

Options here help improve performance in the game if it runs poorly. If the game is choppy in single player mode, or if it's laggy in netplay, you might want to try disabling some of these. It will look worse, but the gameplay will be a lot more fluid.

  • Tone Shading - Toggles tone shading on/off. On by default.
  • Shadows - Toggles shadows on/off. On by default.
  • Texture - Toggles texture quality normal/low. Normal by default.
  • Screen Mode - Toggles between windowed and full screen mode. Windowed by default. You may also toggle this during the game by hitting Alt Enter.
  • Master Volume - Master volume control
  • Music Volume - Music volume control
  • Voice Volume - Voice volume control
  • Sound Effect Volume - Sound effect volume control
